The purpose of this advanced course is to help students become informed observers of—and intelligent commentators on—current global macroeconomic issues. Students are expected to have successfully completed NBA 5245 (Introduction to Macroeconomics) at Johnson (or an equivalent course elsewhere) and are hence expected to come with mastery of the textbook concepts and topics.
In this advanced course students will be using those concepts to dissect the most recent news events. Every week, we will critically read and discuss cases, reports, forecasts, and analyses from government sources, private-sector publications, academic studies, online commentary, and news outlets such as the Economist, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times.
